Liposuction

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Houston and Sugar Land, TX

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a safe and effective way to reshape your body. It can remove excess fat from areas that are difficult or impossible to slim down through diet and exercise alone. This treatment is great for enhancing your body to match the effort you have put into losing weight.

When it comes to recontouring the body, Dr. Ahmad Ahmadi is a leading expert, performing liposuction procedures at Avante Plastic Surgery in Houston and Sugar Land. For more information, call (281) 265-2639 or contact us online.

About Liposuction

Liposuction surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available today. Dr. Ahmadi specializes in multiple solutions to perform liposuction, including high-definition liposuction techniques. During the procedure, he makes a small incision near the targeted fat and then inserts a cannula (a tube-like tool) beneath the skin. He uses the cannula to break up the fat deposits and suction them out of the body. This treatment can also reduce size asymmetries between body parts, such as an uneven waist or different-sized thighs.

Some of the common areas that are treated include:

  • Abdomen and Waist
  • Back
  • Hips and Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Upper Arms
  • Neck & Chin (Double Chin)

Dr. Ahmadi offers three different types of liposuction procedures that can help patients achieve their desired results: Tumescent Liposuction, Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL), and Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL).

  • Tumescent liposuction is the most common technique and is what most people consider “traditional liposuction”. It involves injecting a solution of lidocaine and epinephrine, which reduces bleeding and helps to break down fat cells before they are suctioned out. The benefits include minimal blood loss, less downtime after surgery, and fewer risks associated with the procedure.
  • Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction is an advanced form of liposuction that uses ultrasound energy to liquefy fat cells for removal. This technique helps to reduce trauma to the surrounding tissues and allows for selective targeting of fat in areas like the chin and neck. (1)
  • Laser-assisted liposuction is a relatively new technique that uses laser energy to heat and melt away stubborn fat deposits. This minimally invasive procedure can give patients more precise results with less downtime after surgery. (2)

If you’re considering liposuction, Dr. Ahmadi will help you determine which technique is best for you. By consulting with him, you will be one step closer to achieving your dream body!

Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?

The best candidates for liposuction are those who are close to their ideal body weight and have good skin elasticity. If you have stubborn pockets of fat that diet and exercise alone can’t seem to get rid of, then you may be a good candidate for this procedure. It also helps to maintain realistic expectations and keep a positive attitude. Please keep in mind that Liposuction is not intended as a weight loss surgery, but as a means to get rid of subcutaneous fat. After your procedure, we encourage you to stay healthy and active to maintain your final results.

Personal Consultation

If you are looking into liposuction in Houston, your first step is to schedule a consultation. During your appointment, you will meet with Dr. Ahmadi who will examine your body and determine the best course of action to help you achieve your goals. He will ask you some questions regarding your medical and personal history. Answering these questions honestly will ensure that you are a viable candidate and avoid unnecessary risks during or after your surgery.

With the information he collects, Dr. Ahmadi will create your surgical plan. Our patient coordinator will help set up the date of your procedure. We will give you a list of instructions to follow before your surgery to make sure that it goes safely and smoothly.

Liposuction Procedure

On the day of your plastic surgery procedure, we will ask you to arrive at the office a few minutes before your scheduled appointment. Dr. Ahmadi and his team will prepare you for surgery by administering anesthesia. He will begin by making small incisions in the area where the fat is being removed. Through these incisions, he will insert a cannula into the fat layer under the skin and break up the fat. The cannula is connected to a vacuum device which then gently suctions out excess fat to contour your body. The amount of fat Dr. Ahmadi removes is determined by the patient’s individual anatomy and desired outcome. At the end of your procedure, we will place a sterile dressing over your treatment area to minimize bruising, bleeding, and swelling.

Dr. Ahmadi will monitor your progress over the next few days to make sure that healing is progressing as expected. If necessary, he may also recommend compression garments or wraps to ensure optimal results and speed up recovery time.

Recovery

After liposuction, your body needs time to heal and adjust. You will be able to return home the same day as your surgery, but you will need to take some time to relax and let your body heal. To help with the recovery process, Dr. Ahmadi advises his patients to:

  • Wear a compression garment for at least 1-2 weeks after surgery.
  • Take prescribed medication as needed, following instructions carefully.
  • Avoid strenuous activities such as exercise and heavy lifting for 4-6 weeks.
  • Avoid soaking in a bath or swimming for at least 2-3 weeks.
  • Follow a nutritious diet and drink plenty of water.
  • Keep the incision area clean, dry, and free from infection.
  • Make sure to rest adequately, allowing your body time to heal.
  • Wear compression garments for a minimum of 6 weeks after surgery.

Results

Your treatment area will be affected by swelling for up to several months. Before this time, your full liposuction results will not be visible. However, you will be able to see the general transformation that your procedure has had on your appearance. Fat cells cannot grow back once they have been removed, so your results will be permanent as long as you maintain a steady weight.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

At Avante Plastic Surgery, it is possible to combine liposuction with other body contouring procedures such as LipoTuck™, Tummy Tuck, Breast Lift, or Breast Augmentation. Whether or not you can do this with your liposuction procedure depends on the treatment area. Patients often combine their liposuction surgery with a Brazilian Butt Lift, as it takes excess fat from one area and transfers it to the buttocks. The final results involve more volume in one area of the buttocks and less in an undesired area of the body. Dr. Ahmadi can help you create a customized treatment plan that will best suit your needs and desired outcomes.

FAQ

Is liposuction painful?

Most patients report minimal discomfort during and after their liposuction procedure. Local and general anesthesia help reduce any pain or discomfort that you may experience during the liposuction process.

Do I have to go to sleep during liposuction?

No, you don’t have to go to sleep during liposuction as it can be done under local anesthesia rather than general. Your surgeon will ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed during the procedure, so there is no need to worry about sleeping through it.

Will I need stitches with liposuction?

While your needs will vary, stitches are not always necessary. Some people heal quickly without requiring sutures, while others may need a few to close any small incisions made during the surgery. Ultimately, it depends on the complexity of your procedure and how quickly you heal.

How many appointments will I need?

The number of appointments you will need for liposuction depends on your individual needs and the complexity of the procedure. Generally, you can expect to have a consultation appointment, pre-operative appointment, day-of-surgery appointment, and post-operative follow-up appointments.

How long until I see results?

The full results of liposuction vary depending on the individual, but you should start to see visible changes in your body shape and contours within a few weeks after the procedure. The swelling will gradually diminish over time, allowing you to experience your true results.

How much fat can liposuction remove?

This will depend on the person, the area of the body, and how much fat the patient currently has. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, so the amount of fat that it is possible to remove is not the priority of liposuction surgeons.

When can I return to work?

Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks. Individuals need to follow their doctor’s instructions and take the necessary precautions for a successful recovery. This may include wearing a compression garment, keeping physical activity to a minimum, and taking any necessary medications.

How soon can I exercise after liposuction?

Generally speaking, it is best to wait for at least two weeks before returning to any form of physical activity to allow your body ample time to heal.

When can I have sex after a liposuction procedure?

Typically about 1-2 weeks after liposuction. While you may feel better sooner than that, it is important to wait until your body has had time to heal properly from your procedure. Additionally, you may want to take some extra precautions during sexual intercourse by wearing a waist cincher or a girdle for support. It is also important to listen to your body and take it easy; if something doesn’t feel right or causes you discomfort, stop and rest until the pain subsides.

Can I have liposuction if I’m not done having children?

If you are not done having children, liposuction surgery may be a viable option for you. Liposuction does not typically affect future pregnancies and can provide aesthetically pleasing results with minimal discomfort afterward. However, it is important to discuss your particular situation with your surgeon before proceeding with the procedure, as he will customize the best treatment plan to achieve your desired results.

Can you get liposuction if you have poor skin elasticity?

Most plastic surgeons will recommend patients have firm skin elasticity to get plastic surgery. If you do not, you may need to receive a skin-excising lift procedure in combination with your liposuction surgery or as a separate treatment afterward.

Does liposuction negatively affect blood supply or blood vessels?

Liposuction cannulas typically cause minimal trauma to the blood supply of the skin in the targeted area. Injured blood vessels should regenerate as you heal.

What happens to the unwanted fat cells from liposuction?

Once the fat cells are removed, they have left your body and will not grow back in the treated area unless you gain weight. However, if you are having fat transferred to another area of the body, they will either be reabsorbed or simply stay in the area they were moved to.
