Gynecomastia

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Houston and Sugar Land, TX

The average man wants to feel strong and powerful, which is why there are so many gym memberships out there. Unfortunately, there are many men who suffer from a condition that is more commonly referred to as “man boobs”. This doesn’t come from a lack of dedication to working out or even a poor diet, but rather a biological function that can only be fixed with surgery. Dr. Ahmad Ahmadi offers Gynecomastia surgery for his male Houston-area patients as a way to finally get closer to the body type that they want. To learn more about this procedure and find out if this is right for you, please continue reading the information we have provided below.

Procedure

Gynecomastia comes from the Greek translation of “female breast”, and is the non-cancerous enlargement of one or both breasts in a man. This symptom arises from excess growth of breast tissue as a result of a hormone imbalance between estrogens and androgens. While the condition is not life-threatening, it can cause self-esteem issues for many men.

Some of the primary causes of Gynecomastia include:

  • Anabolic steroids
  • Endocrine Gland dysfunction
  • Hormonal changes
  • Prescription medications
  • Weight gain

Dr. Ahmadi uses male breast reduction surgery to help treat this condition by making the proper incisions that allow him to remove the excess skin and perform liposuction on the unnecessary fat.

Our Houston Gynecomastia patients have seen so many benefits from their surgery, including:

  • Can alleviate back pain

First Steps

If you are in the Houston area and feel like male breast reduction is right for you, the first step is to schedule your consultation at Avante Plastic Surgery. When you come in for your appointment, you will meet with Dr. Ahmadi who will evaluate your condition, address any questions or concerns you have, and listen to your goals for the surgery. You will be asked questions regarding your lifestyle and medical history, so it is very important to be open and honest with her because the information you provide helps prevent any unnecessary risks or side effects. Dr. Ahmadi is very discreet and confidential, so he is a safe person to talk to and his primary goal is your health and happiness. Once he has all the information he needs, he will create your personal procedure plan. If you agree with the plan, you will then schedule your surgical date with our Patient Coordinator, who will also provide you with some pre-op instructions to ensure the best procedure possible.

Expectations

On the day of your male breast reduction surgery, we will first administer you general anesthesia so you will be comfortable during your procedure. Dr. Ahmadi will begin by making incisions through the armpit or around the areola to insert a small tube called a cannula. He will move the tube back and forth along the fat deposits in your chest to loosen it up and suck it out via liposuction. After this, there are usually larger amounts of glandular tissue and skin that will be needed to be excised and removed. While not every patient will require both techniques, it is not uncommon for both to be performed to achieve the best look possible. Dr. Ahmadi will finish by closing the incisions with sutures.

The entire surgery will last around one to two hours.

Recovery

After you are released from our care, you will be able to return home and recover in comfort. You will need a friend or family member to provide a ride home for you, and we strongly recommend having an adult caretaker available to assist you for the next day or so. After a male breast reduction, patients can expect to experience some swelling and bruising at first, but Dr. Ahmadi will prescribe you medication to alleviate any pain and keep the infection under control. You can also expect to wear a compression garment for the first week or so to keep any swelling to a minimum.

You should be able to return to work in about a week post-surgery. Most patients are fully recovered in about two weeks, but every patient will have a different experience.

Cost

The cost of Gynecomastia surgery in Houston will vary depending on a number of factors. The best way to get the most accurate cost will be to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ahmadi. After your surgical plan is created, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you a full breakdown of the costs.
