Whether you are looking for a chiseled jawline or a more soft and delicate appearance, Chin Augmentation in Houston from Avante Plastic Surgery can change people’s perceptions of you. If you are interested in this type of procedure, please keep reading the information we have provided below.

Procedure

Chin Augmentation Houston

Also called Alloplastic Genioplasty, Chin Augmentation is a surgical procedure that changes the appearance of your chin with the use of an artificial material (implant). Two of the basic options for a chin implant are a smooth implant that’s made of silicone and a textured implant made of porous polyethylene (a thermoplastic polymer). Depending on your particular goals, implants can be custom-made or stock (pre-designed). If you’re looking for a softer and more feminine look, a smooth implant may be best for you, whereas a textured implant is better for creating a stronger and more masculine appearance.

Benefits

In addition an aesthetic improvement and a boost in self-confidence, some of the benefits our Houston Chin Augmentation patients have seen are:

Frist Steps

The first step in getting a Chin Augmentation in Houston is to contact our office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Ahmadi. When you come into Avante Plastic Surgery, he will review your medical history, listen to your concerns, and examine your chin. Together, you and Dr. Ahmadi will identify your key concerns, discuss the treatment options, and develop your procedure plan. If you agree with the plan that he makes, you can schedule your surgical date with our Patient Coordinator. You will also be provided with preoperative instructions to ensure the best possible experience and any other additional information that you may require.

Expectations

Chin Augmentation Houston

On the day of your Chin Augmentation, Dr. Ahmadi will meet with you in the preoperative area to briefly go over your surgical plan and provide answers to any last-minute questions. You will be administered anesthesia before surgery for a more comfortable experience. Dr. Ahmadi will perform your chin augmentation using either an intraoral (inside your mouth) or submental (under your chin) technique.

When the incision is made, the tissues are elevated to expose the mandible (jawbone). Depending on what was discussed during your consultation, Dr. Ahmadi will then place your stock or custom-made implant and close the incision. A long-lasting local anesthetic will be injected before you wake up so that the operative sites are numb.

The procedure takes about one hour to complete.

Recovery

We will monitor you for about two hours post-surgery in our recovery room, but once Dr. Ahmadi feels comfortable releasing you, you will be able to return home to rest. Since you will most likely still be feeling the effects of the anesthesia, you should have a family member or friend available to provide a ride home for you. You will be able to eat and drink whenever you feel ready, but we do advise you to stick to soft or easy-to-eat foods for the first few days. You will want to take it easy for the first week as your tissue heals and prevent excess bleeding. While you will be able to return to work or school after this first week, we encourage you to not rush your recovery time.

You will want to wait at least three weeks before engaging in any non-contact sports, but can gradually resume exercising as you start to feel better. After about eight weeks, the tissue in your chin should be fully healed and return to your previously restricted activities.

Cost

The cost of Chin Augmentation in Houston will vary depending on many factors, including the implant you choose, the complexity of the reconstruction, and the time needed for surgery. The best way to determine the cost of your surgery is to consult with Dr. Ahmadi and let him create a personalized surgical plan for you. Using this plan, our Patient Coordinator can provide you with a complete breakdown of the procedure cost.

FAQ

is chin augmentation painful?

Since Chin Augmentation is performed under anesthesia, your surgery should not be painful. While you can expect your chin to feel swollen and sore as you recover, most patients experience a “pressure” sensation that some find uncomfortable. Dr. Ahmadi will prescribe you pain medication that should help alleviate any pain felt during your initial recovery, but a gently placed ice pack can also help make you a little more comfortable.

how many appointments will i need?

You will need to return about a week after surgery so that Dr. Ahmadi can observe your healing and remove any sutures or gauze. After this initial check-up, you will probably need to return a few more times to monitor your progress and satisfaction with the results.

how long until i see results?

On average, it takes about 7 – 10 days to see any bruising and swelling disappear, so you may be able to see some positive changes around this time. Most patients require three to six months to see the new contours of their chin, with final results being visible about a year after surgery.

can i combine chin augmentation with other procedures?

If you would like to have any additional procedures with your Chin Augmentation, please discuss your goals with Dr. Ahmadi during your consultation and he will be able to guide you to the right procedures. Some common surgeries combined with a chin augmentation include a Rhinoplasty or a Brow Lift for an enhanced facial appearance.

What are the risks associated with chin augmentation?

Dr. Ahmadi uses his experience and knowledge to avoid unwanted outcomes, but there are still risks associated with Chin Augmentation, which include:

Anesthesia reactions
Asymmetries
Change in skin sensation (numbness or pain)
Chin implant malposition
Swelling and bruising
Infection
Poor wound healing or scarring
Possibility of revision surgery
Skin discoloration and swelling
