Before and After Photos

Procedure

A breast lift surgery, or a mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to lift and reshape sagging breasts (or drooping breasts) by removing excess breast skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to create a more youthful and uplifted appearance.

The goal of a mastopexy is to reposition the nipple and areola, elevate breast tissue, reduce the size of the areola, and create a more symmetrical breast shape. As we age, our breasts change – things like pregnancy, nursing, or weight fluctuations, such as dramatic weight loss or weight gain, can affect the appearance of your breasts due to lost volume.

Breast Lift Techniques

  • Crescent incision: This type is used for breasts with minimal drooping and involves a small crescent-shaped incision at the top of the areola. This is the smallest incision, but it provides the least amount of lift. It also has the most minimal scarring.
  • Lollipop incision: Also known as a keyhole or vertical incision, this technique works well for mild to moderate sagging breasts. This incision goes around the areola and down to the breast crease, creating a lollipop-style shape.
  • Anchor incision: Also known as the inverted-T incision. Like the vertical incision, this incision is used for severely sagging breasts. It involves an incision around the areola, down to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision in the breast fold. This technique may also require the removal of extra skin to achieve a better breast shape.

Lift and Augmentation

Both the breast lift procedure and breast implants are often talked about similarly, and while they are both examples of breast surgery, they are actually very different procedures. Breast lift surgery uses the tissue you naturally have to reshape the breast to achieve a more youthful breast. On the other hand, breast augmentation is a different cosmetic surgical procedure involving the insertion of a breast implant to increase size and fullness. Conversely, some patients may require a breast reduction if they possess excess fat or breast tissue.

First Steps

If you are looking into Breast Lift surgery in Houston, your first step is to contact Avante Plastic Surgery and schedule your consultation.

When you come in and meet with Dr. Ahmadi, he will answer any questions you have about the procedure, consider your aesthetic goals, evaluate your breasts and body type, and do a physical exam of your breasts. He will also ask about your medical history, previous surgeries, medications, and current herbal supplements, so it’s very important to be open and honest when talking with Dr. Ahmadi so you can avoid any unnecessary risks.

After discussing your options and deciding the best technique to achieve the best look for you, Dr. Ahmadi will create your treatment plan and you can schedule your procedure date with our Patient Coordinator. You will be provided with instructions to follow prior to your procedure, such as stop taking certain medications.

Prior to the operation, we can photograph your breast profile and front on, so that we can compare the before photo to the after photo, following your mastopexy.

Expectations

Your procedure will take place at a surgical center and will begin with the administration of anesthesia. Dr. Ahmadi will usually make three incisions but will be determined by how your breasts sag.

  • The first will circle around the areola or the dark skin around the nipple.
  • The second incision begins under the nipple and continues until the bottom of the breast.
  • The final incision is along the base of your breasts.

After the incision, Dr. Ahmadi will resculpt your breasts to create the desired appearance. This will involve tightening, removing excess skin, and sculpting the underlying breast and fatty tissue. Once the procedure is complete, Dr. Ahmadi will close the incisions with surgical tape, skin adhesives, or sutures. You will then be fitted with a surgical bra and dressings to help heal.

This procedure can take anywhere between 2 and 4 hours and may take longer if you are getting another procedure, like breast implants, at the same time.

Recovery

Mastopexy is an outpatient procedure typically performed under general anesthesia. This means that you get to go home after the procedure is finished. It can take up to 24 hours to completely recover from the effects of the anesthesia, and you will need help at home for the first week. Patients are typically advised to wear the support bra 24/7 for several weeks to help heal.

After the procedure, you may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising around your breasts, which can be managed with pain medication and by following the surgeon’s instructions for postoperative care. You may feel tingling or numbness around the incisions, especially around the areola because there are a lot of nerve endings in that area. Over time, your incisions will heal and the swelling will gradually subside, as well as any visible scarring.

The recovery time varies based on several factors, such as the type of surgery and incisions. You must avoid heavy lifting, strenuous activity, or any activity that causes pain or discomfort. Dr. Ahmadi will give you specific instructions to follow.

While you will see some improvements immediately, it can take six weeks or more to see the most dramatic improvement in your breast lift results. It is important to remember that this procedure may impact your ability to breastfeed.

Cost

The price of a breast lift procedure varies depending on the type of lift required and if you are combining any other procedures. While an approximate price can be provided over the phone, an exact breast lift cost can only be given after a consultation with Dr. Ahmadi. Houston, Texas clients have many options to finance their procedure with Avante Plastic Surgery, with options that will fit any budget.

FAQ

Is a breast lift painful?

No. The procedure is performed under anesthesia so you will not have any issues with pain or discomfort. As you heal, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild pain that should dissipate over the next week or so, but Dr. Ahmadi will temporarily prescribe you some pain medication to make your recovery more comfortable. We will also provide you with instructions to follow to achieve the best results.

How many appointments will I need?

Dr. Ahmadi will have you return about a week following your surgery so he can monitor your recovery and remove any sutures or bandages. After this initial check-up, you can expect to return a few more times over the year, usually around three months and six months, for Dr. Ahmadi to ensure you are healing happily and healthily.

How long until I see my breast lift results?

You may be able to see results almost immediately, depending on the degree of change, but you will still be swollen and bruised. On average, patients can expect to see their final results within 6 to 12 weeks as their breasts achieve their final shape and resting place.

Will Breast implants make my breasts look better?

When combined with a lift, implants can increase your breast size, especially for patients with smaller breasts. If you are looking to fix mild sagging, asymmetrical breasts, or would just like to improve the size of your breasts, a lift with implants could help you achieve those aesthetic goals.

Is tissue removed during a breast lift?

Typically, most breast lifts require the removal of excess skin and breast tissue. Dr. Ahmadi will also use several different incision patterns to reposition the areola and nipple, as well as excess breast skin.

When can I exercise after a breast lift?

It is also very important to avoid any activity that causes sweating, which increases your risk of infection. You should wait at least 4 to 6 weeks after a breast lift before engaging in any exercise or activity that raises your heart rate. Even after the first six weeks, you should still take it slow. You should start the activity gradually and follow all of Dr. Ahmadi’s postoperative instructions carefully to avoid any complications.

Can I combine breast lift with other procedures?

Yes! Breast lifts are commonly paired with other breast-based procedures. Many patients get stunning results after combining breast lift and implants simultaneously to save time and money.

Getting a combination procedure will cut down on healing time in the long run– while you may need to have reduced activity for a longer initial period, many people find this easier than getting one procedure, healing, and then getting another and healing again. Patients often pair their breast lift with other body contouring procedures such as a tummy tuckLipoTuck™, or liposuction. This will involve pulling the breasts to a youthful position (improving saggy breasts) and removing fat from another area of the body.

What are the risks associated with breast lifts?

Dr. Ahmadi is a Houston TX breast lift surgery expert and has performed hundreds of successful breast lift surgeries because he puts your health and safety as his top priority. We believe that communication and understanding help produce the best results possible, which is why we share all the pros and cons of a particular surgery. Breast lift surgery is a safe procedure for many women, but does have its own possible complications, including:

Anesthesia risks
Bleeding or hematoma formation
Breast asymmetry
Breast contour and shape irregularities
Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which may be temporary or permanent
Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications
Fatty tissue found deep in the skin might die (fat necrosis)
Fluid accumulation
Infection
Poor healing of incisions
Possibility of revisional surgery
Potential partial or total loss of nipple and areola

While these risks are rare, if you do experience any long-lasting or concerning reactions, such as chest pain, please contact our clinic immediately.

Will a breast lift be able to treat breast cancer?

While a breast lift mastopexy procedure can potentially remove the section of the breast that contains the cancer, followed by performing the standard breast lift by itself, it’s not a guarantee to cure your condition. If this is something you would like Dr. Ahmadi to attempt to treat, please let him know so that the two of you can make the best surgical choices for you.

Is breast lift done using local anesthesia?

Dr. Ahmadi typically uses general anesthesia for his mastopexy patients.

Does a mastopexy change the areola size?

Most patients are interested to know if their areola will change as a result of the procedure. You should address this with your surgeon, as they can change the size of the areola during the operation.
